Clever response to “no God” campaign

You may have read about the campaign by the British Humanist Association to put posters on London buses with the words “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.”

There's probably no God poster

Today on the Church Times Blog I came across a clever response to this campaign. The cartoon reads “There’s probably is no bus. So come to church and enjoy yourself for a bit”. Love it.

There's probably no bus cartoon

In Sydney there has been a long lasting (pardon the pun) billboard (and radio) campaign promoting longer lasting sex:

Longer Lasting Sex billboard

The billboard appears across the road from an inner-city church, and on the gates outside the church, St Barnabas Anglican Church did a great anti-ad that read:

“Want something longer lasting than sex? The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. Bible: Lamentations 3:23″

Want something longer lasting than sex?

These are both great examples of churches working with (rather than against) current advertising campaigns to challenge and provoke.

Can you think of other examples of this kind of outreach?

Great to see my pic get picked up! (The longer lasting sex at St Barney’s).

No worries Glenn – was a great idea. Is Barney’s planning any other posters to interact with the commercial billboards on George St?

Speaking of advertisements on buses, I’ve just read this article about a bus poster campaign by an Islamic group in Florida. Apparently (I haven’t seen the posters), the posters read “”ISLAM: The Way of Life of Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad”. I came across the link via an article on the Neue Ministry website.

OK, so it’s a bit gimmicky. But here’s a website where you can create your own slogans, and see how they’d look on a bus!
