Next week I’ll be speaking at an HSC study camp and the theme I’ve decided to run with is ‘Don’t waste your life’. Despite the title, I haven’t based it on John Piper book of the same title (you can download this for free here), but instead will be looking at a number of episodes from the gospel according to Luke, to illustrate what Jesus has to say about living a life that isn’t wasted. The six talks will be:
- Talk 1 – How to prepare for a flood (Luke 6:46-49)
- Talk 2 – Standing in awe of Jesus (Luke 8:22-25)
- Talk 3 – Big debt, big love (Luke 7:36-50)
- Talk 4 – The day we killed God (Luke 23:32-49)
- Talk 5 – A new daily routine (Luke 9:18-26)
- Talk 6 – Don’t worry (be generous)! (Luke 12:22-34)
I’ve come across a couple of multimedia resources that help to illustrate some of the ideas that I’ll be talking about.
1. 85 years in 40 seconds. A reminder that life goes so quickly.
2. A scene from the movie ‘Papillon’ where a man is accused of living a wasted life
3. Wise and foolish builders (perhaps a bit ‘young’ for my audience)
4. An example of someone being rich towards God
Do you know of any other good resources that will help teach this concept and these passages?

A tad late on the reply, but our Youth Minister preached a series entitled “Don’t Waste Your Life”. He was inspired by LeCrae: the Rapper from the USA. MP3s available at SALTyouth.com
