Video Bible readings at City on a Hill

The Bible reading/s in our weekly gatherings should be a high point of the service, but experience shows it can be hit and miss. The combined ability and preparation of the Bible reader can impact how listeners (the congregation) digest the passage, and prepare for the sermon.

How we train our Bible readers and congregations for the Bible reading is perhaps a discussion for another day. However, I was recently reminded that there’s more than one way to read the Bible in church.

In Melbourne, City on a Hill has been using video to deliver Bible readings during their services.

You can see more of these videos on their Vimeo channel. Have you seen any other creative examples of Bible readings for church gatherings?

    I like this!

I so often hear people talk about Bible reading as the easy thing to do at Church, when it’s not easy at all! Our brains find it hard to decode text, create meaning from it, and communicate that meaning through speech all at once.

This way mandates good preparation and makes you think about how you’re going to communicate the meaning of the passage.

Will definitely be thinking about using this at Church. Thanks for sharing!

Ive seen this sort of typographical presentation done a few times:

I really think it depends on the presentation, there are ways of making it engaging to the different learning/teaching styles without making it take over as well.
