5 (useful) links #15

Five websites and online resources to inspire, inform and enthuse.

  1. Here are my hands. A cool concept for a video clip for a new Christian song.
  2. John 3:16 in Pop Culture. A photo gallery by TIME magazine.
  3. 8 ways Twitter can benefit the Christian. h/t Tim Challies.
  4. Memorise a verse of Scripture for each letter of the alphabet. Daggy website, great idea.
  5. Top 10 regrettable emails. A series by TIME magazine.

Two videos from Worthy worship night

Last night at my church we held Worthy – a night of worship.

We commenced the night with the Every Knee video by Flickering Mind Media that I found on WorshipHouse Media:

Later in the evening we played a video from the I Am Second project – a testimony by Jason Castro, a finalist in American Idol:

There are some powerful (and well-produced videos) on the I Am Second website – I commend them to you.

Promoting Worthy – a worship night

At Church by the Bridge on 31 July, we will be holding a worship night. It’s called Worthy.

Below is a short (simple) video I put together to promote the night at church, and on our website. It was created using Keynote and a stock image from iStockphoto. I then uploaded it to Vimeo, for simple distribution and embedding. The tools are out there to create useful (if not mindblowing) visuals to accompany or promote church activities. Give it a go, have a play, and share what you come up with!

If you’re in Sydney on 31 July, why not come along to Worthy. Let’s worship Jesus – he is worthy.

Three videos for church newcomers

Recently my church celebrated its 125-year anniversary. Over the course of 9 days we put on a range of activities and invited the local community (church and suburb) to celebrate with us. A real highlight was the “I Heart Kirribilli” art exhibition and prize – check out some of the photos of this event, and other events during the week, in the photo galleries.

During services on the two weekends of the celebration, we played two videos. We wanted to use videos that spoke directly to the newcomer (anticipating correctly that lots of newcomers would walk through our doors), that weren’t cheesy, and that clearly communicated what we’re on about as Christians. We found three videos, but only played two (we’ve saved Smart for another time).

In reverse order of confrontation-level, with my favourite and most confronting video last in the list, here are three videos to play in church, targeted at newcomers.

Each of these videos is available for purchase from WorshipHouse Media.

Have you seen any other good videos to play for newcomers?
