When a Church is Too Empty, or Too Full

At the Mars Hill Connect Day last week, this dynamic was explained.
  • If someone walks into a church and less than 50% of the chairs are filled, it looks too empty.
  • If someone walks into a church and more than 85% of the chairs are filled, it looks too full.

Both dynamics push people away. Clearly, environments matters. What can you do?

  • When it comes to an empty room, you can pray for more people to come, and you can put out less chairs.
  • When it comes to a room at 85% capacity, it's time to plant another church or congregation.

Either way, you need to keep an eye on the dynamics of the room and the number of people in it.
